How Much Fertilizer Do I Need at This Application Rate?
Enter your treatment area and the rate printed on the product label. This calculates the quantity needed, and containers plus cost if you know your bag size.
How this is calculated
Product needed is treatment area divided by the label rate's basis (1,000 sq ft or one acre), multiplied by the label rate. If a container size is entered, containers needed rounds up to the next whole bag, since you can't buy a fraction of one. Cost multiplies containers by the price per container.
Worked example
A 5,000 sq ft lawn with a product labeled at 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft needs 15 lbs of product. At a 5 lb bag size, that's 3 bags (rounding up from 3.0 exactly still needs the third bag opened).
Frequently asked questions
Where do I get the label application rate?
From the product bag or container itself, every labeled fertilizer states a rate, usually as an amount per 1,000 sq ft or per acre. This calculator does the area math, it never suggests a rate for you.
Why doesn't Grounds Toolkit just tell me how much fertilizer to use?
Application rates are product-specific and regulated by the label, using a generic default here could mean over- or under-applying a regulated chemical. Always use the rate printed on the product you actually have.
What if my label rate is in a unit this calculator doesn't list?
Convert it to a per-1,000-sq-ft or per-acre basis first (most labels already use one of these two conventions), then enter the number, the result comes out in whatever unit you entered the rate in.
